Two Wins for Hampton at Lime Rock in International GT

Lime Rock is a beautiful place to go racing! What a fabulous weekend we had in Connecticut. This was our first time competing in the National Trans-Am Series and David's first time as well. After accumulating some experience and some wins in the Trans-Am West Series the past few years, we felt David was ready to take that next step and compete nationally. After grabbing four wins out West to start the season, David was excited to take his Porsche Cayman GT4 RS out East to visit some new tracks, starting with Lime Rock Park in Salisbury, Connecticut.

We had never visited or raced at Lime Rock before, so we had a lot to learn in a short amount of time. In addition to the Trans-Am series, David was also able to compete in International GT (IGT) to get some extra laps in. Seat time is crucial to learning any new track, and David kicked off the weekend with a Friday class win in IGT Race 1.

Saturday, we had the IGT 1-Hour Enduro and driver coach Thomas Merrill paired up with David. The AR crew delivered a phenomenal pit stop for the driver change, and the duo took home the class win and 4th overall honors, beating a host of Cup cars!

Memorial Day was race day for Trans-Am, with qualifying first up in the morning. We had beautiful weather the first few days, but it poured during qualifying. David did a stellar job getting himself 3rd on the grid in the rain. The sun came back out and the track dried by the afternoon. When the green flag dropped, there was some contact at the front of the TA field in Turn 1, sending a car around right in the middle of the track. David had his eyes up and was quick to react, avoiding the scene.

After 62 laps around the 1.5-mile circuit, David brought home a fourth-place finish in class, just one spot off the podium. Lime Rock presented some new and fun challenges for David to overcome throughout the weekend. He did a good job building up his trust in the car through some corners that required lots of commitment. It was great for him to experience this with even more fast tracks lined up on the schedule for Trans-Am the rest of the season!

Learning a new track in one weekend is always challenging, especially when all of David's competitors had raced at Lime Rock before. The ball was definitely in their court, but David held his own ran some competitive times by the end of the weekend and developed even further as a driver! It's all about progress and David’s enthusiasm for learning is infectious. It certainly motivates the whole crew.

Next, we head to the Brickyard for International GT at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 13th! We are certainly looking forward to that one.
